dmg2img says "ERROR: dmg image is corrupted".

If you get iPhoto "file corrupted" when running the Standard Installation, no problem. Trash iPhoto and reinstall iPhoto only as a Custom install.

iPhoto 9.0 does not work in Lion. You must download and install the 9.1 Updater from Apple. Now Software Update will bring it to the current version and you are all set.

I tried installing iPhoto, Garage Band, etc. separately. Anyone have any ideas?

I got it. Go to System Preferences and set the Time/Date to 2011. After iLife '11 is installed. Reset the date to 2012. Then you can download the necessary iPhoto update.
